Live bassoon, singing bowls and soundscapes: space to arrive, listen and unwind.

I’m Luke Crookes. I bring together the breath and warmth of the bassoon, the resonance of singing bowls and layers of recorded sound. Each session begins with the people and the room, with time to settle into listening without needing to produce a particular response.

I welcome bookings from organisations, businesses, venues and groups, for a single session or a series. This work is through my freelance practice, Luke Crookes | Tuning In.

My public sessions at St Chad’s Church in New Moston are run separately through Tuning In CIC.

Four ways to begin

Community groups and local sessions

Bring people together for a shared listening experience in a community space, cultural venue or organised group. We can discuss a one-off session or a series, with a host who knows the group and can help shape the welcome and practical arrangements.

If you would simply like to attend, rather than organise a session, see the St Chad’s community sound bath dates. These ticketed sessions are through Tuning In CIC. You can also read what to expect.

Businesses, workplaces and corporate events

A listening session can offer a different kind of shared pause within a team day, staff programme or event. I welcome enquiries from businesses that would like to make thoughtful space for their people, with participation by choice rather than an expectation to perform or respond in the same way.

We can discuss how the session fits your day, the group size and a room where listening will not compete with other activity.

NHS teams and healthcare-related settings

I welcome conversations with NHS teams and healthcare organisations interested in exploring a non-clinical listening session for staff or a carefully planned community programme. These sessions would be developed together around an agreed brief and the needs of the setting.

The purpose, participants and practical arrangements would be discussed with the responsible team first. Sound baths are not offered as medical treatment or as a replacement for clinical care.

Parents, carers and babies

Parent-and-baby sound sessions are something I have explored before and would welcome developing further with suitable hosts. The starting point is a shared experience for adults and babies, with room for the everyday sounds and interruptions of being together.

This needs its own format: we would discuss the babies’ ages, session length, sound levels, space and support before deciding what is appropriate. Parent-and-baby enquiries are planned separately from the adult community sessions.

Hum Bath: breath, body and vibration

A Hum Bath is an invitation to explore humming, listening and the feeling of sound in the body. There is no tune to get right and no performance to give. We begin with breath and a simple hum, making space to notice what it feels like rather than trying to make something impressive.

It can be a warm-up before a sound bath, an addition to a wider session, or an experience in its own right. People attending my current 15-minute sessions have described the experience as meditative.

Hum Baths can be planned for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, depending on your group and setting. You are welcome to listen, pause or join in at your own pace.

How we plan it together

Tell me who the session is for and what you have in mind. We can talk through the setting, timing, access, seating or lying-down options, and what your team can provide. You do not need a finished brief.

I am based in North Manchester and welcome work across Manchester, Greater Manchester and the North West. I also enjoy working in London and elsewhere in the UK, with international bookings by arrangement. Travel, transporting the bowls and equipment, and time to prepare the space are part of our early conversation. For some settings, a visit beforehand may be useful.

We agree the format and fee before confirming a booking, including preparation, delivery, travel and any additional work we decide on together.

The way I work grows out of Tuning In and Field First: noticing the people and the room, making space to arrive, and working from what is actually there.
